The Green Party has today published its manifesto for the 2019 General Election, and their Brexit policy has barely changed since their 2017 manifesto. You can read it for yourself here, but its key points on Brexit are summarised below. The Greens are committed to remaining in the EU and are offering voters a second referendum with a chance to remain a member. Despite the fact that both sides in the Referendum said a Leave vote meant leaving the Single Market, the Green party are committed to Single Market membership. They would guarantee the rights of EU nationals living in the UK to remain before lobbying the EU to allow UK citizens living in member states to do the same. The party wants to improve EU laws on the environment and keep legislation on workers rights made in Brussels. The Party also promises reform of the Common Agricultural Policy, so that it “promotes more sustainable farming methods,” and “press for a review of the Common Fisheries Policy in order to increase its sustainability”. Key Points Second referendum on the final deal (including an option to Remain in the EU) Commit to Single Market Membership Enshrine Freedom of Movement as a core principle of the EU Guarantee the full rights of EU citizens and their families living in the UK Reform of the Common Agricultural Policy Review of the Common Fisheries Policy in order to increase its sustainability Reform European refugee policy Improve EU laws on the environment and workers rights Allow Members of the EU Parliament to initiate Europe-wide legislation Introduce a binding lobbying register for all EU institutions and set up an independent body to supervise its operation
