How will you spend Christmas and New Year this year? I’m looking forward to spending Christmas with my family and using the time over the holidays to catch up with friends who I feel that I’ve neglected since June. I’ve never been a big fan of New Year; however, for the first time ever I’ll be travelling down to London with my family to join in the Hogmanay celebrations! Will Brexit be a topic of conversation over Christmas dinner? With me round the dinner table it’s inevitable! What is your favourite memory of the referendum campaign? I have many memories from that campaign from puncturing my car tyre to exhausting myself climbing stairs in Glasgow high-rise flats in Castlemilk; from holding placards outside the Scottish Parliament with a small group of supporters to being filmed speaking to an elderly lady on an Aberdeen bench while Gordon Brown was filmed at a huge Remain rally! However, my favourite memory has to be doing the live results programme for STV which I did from midnight through to 6am and seeing the astonishing results coming in from across the UK. It was such an exciting and electric night. What do you think was the most significant moment of 2017? It would have to be the snap General Election. It was hugely significant for me as it has completely changed my life, but it was also significant for the country for two reasons: 1) It killed IndyRef2 and sent the strongest possible message to the SNP that when Scots said No in 2014 we really meant it; and 2) It ensured that we had the right person as Prime Minister to take our country through this unprecedented and historic time as we exit the EU. These Brexit negotiations are not a dress rehearsal, you only get one opportunity to get them right and I dread to think how things would be progressing, or should I say not progressing, under Prime Minister Corbyn. Whether it be a traditional carol or a festive chart hit, what is your favourite piece of Christmas music? My favourite Christmas chart hit is I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday by Wizzard. I loved this song as a kid, listening to it over and over again at this time of year. Why? Well I was a bit mad but also Christmas is without a shadow of a doubt my most favourite time of year. I absolutely love it and I do wish it could be Christmas every day! Complete the phrase: “Brexit means… Freedom, liberty and a better future for Britain. Have you any (political or personal) New Year’s resolutions? Yes. Find the gym again as I seem to have lost it.
