Ivan Lewis was elected Labour MP for Bury South in 1997 and served in a variety of ministerial roles in the Blair and Brown governments between 2001 and 2010 and then in Ed Miliband’s shadow cabinet between 2010 and 2015. He latterly sat in the House of Commons as an Independent MP after resigning from the Labour Party until the 2019 general election.
