Chris Loder was recently selected as the Conservative Party’s prospective parliamentary candidate for Dorset West from a field of around 140 applicants. He was formerly councillor for his home ward on West Dorset District Council and served as chairman of the West Dorset Conservative Association between 2016 and August 2019, when he resigned in order to seek the parliamentary nomination. He is a former member of the RMT who left school to pursue a career with the railway, beginning as a Train Guard, going on to head the operations of c2c and Chiltern Railways in his 20s, as well as spending time with the German state rail operator Deutsche Bahn.
